Care Information
Your scarf is made from fine merino wool, finished by hand. With a little care, it will stay soft and hold its shape for years. Here's how to look after it.
The Nordic way
The simplest care is often no washing at all. On a cold, dry day, hang your scarf outside for an hour or so, fresh air lifts everyday smells, like last night's dinner, without a single wash.
If it's snowing, lay the scarf flat on clean, fresh snow and gently pat a layer of snow into the fibres, front and back. Leave it for 20 to 60 minutes, flipping it once halfway through. Shake off the snow and bring it inside to dry flat. The snow lifts dirt and odour with it as it falls away.
Dry clean
If you'd rather not wash it yourself, take your scarf to a professional dry cleaner. This keeps the quality of the wool fully intact.
Hand wash
Hand wash in clean, lukewarm water at around 30°C, using a mild, gentle detergent. Let it soak for about 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly, first in lukewarm water, then in cold. Wash the scarf on its own or with similar colours. Avoid wringing or squeezing it, to prevent shrinkage or distortion. Dry flat, never hanging, a hung scarf will stretch and distort under its own weight.
Machine wash
If you prefer the washing machine, use the wool setting at 30°C. Whichever program you use, check that the spin cycle is switched off. Wool can only take very gentle movement. Too much agitation, and it will felt, which matters more than the temperature. So above all, make sure the program you choose moves the scarf as little as possible. Dry the scarf flat, and let it air dry naturally for the best result.
Fabric softener can be used, but sparingly. Too much acts as a lubricant that pushes fibres to the surface, which can cause pilling in later washes.
Ironing
Use the wool setting, or medium heat. Too hot, and you risk discolouration or scorch marks. A better option is the steam function with light pressure. Too much pressure can leave the wool looking shiny.
